At the national and state level, teachers are recruited for the government schools of India through Teacher Eligibility Tests (Test). The Common Teacher Eligibility Test (CTE) is one of the most sought-after government exams (CTET). The Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board organises and administers the state-level teacher eligibility exam known as the UPTET. The exam is open to those who want to begin their career as a teacher in the primary and upper primary grades, respectively. Every year, more than 15 lakh people apply for the UPTET, which means the competition is fierce. Every year, the Maharashtra State Council of Examinations organises the MahaTET, a state-level examination. Those who pass the exam are hired as teachers in the state's public schools. There are two MAHA TET papers, one for primary-level candidates and the other for elementary-level candidates, both of which are administered by the state of Maharashtra.
Additionally, in addition to the aforementioned, states like HPTET (Himachal Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test), PSTET, MPTET (Madhya Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test), and Karnataka TET administer teacher eligibility tests.
